Ads keep Being Tricky free to read. This page explains how they work and the rules we follow so they never affect what we write.
Display ads
- Ads come from Google AdSense. Google chooses which ads appear; we don’t pick individual advertisers. We block ad categories that don’t fit a tech-help site where we can.
- Every ad we place is labeled Advertisements and sits in its own box, apart from menus, buttons and article text.
- Ads only appear between sections of an article, never inside a list of steps.
- There are no ads on our policy pages, search results or error pages.
- No ads on sensitive guides: articles about scams, hacked accounts and security incidents carry no ads, so nobody in a stressful situation is shown ads next to advice.
If you see an ad that looks like a scam, a fake download button or a fake virus warning, please send a screenshot to contact@beingtricky.com so we can block it. Never call a phone number shown in an ad that claims your device is infected.
Ads and editorial are separate
- Advertisers never see, approve or change our articles.
- We choose topics for readers, not to attract a particular advertiser.
- An ad appearing next to an article doesn’t mean we recommend that product.
Sponsorship and paid placement
We don’t sell reviews, rankings, links or coverage. We don’t publish guest posts written to promote a product.
If we ever publish anything that a company paid for, it will be labeled Sponsored at the top and in the headline area, its links will be marked rel="sponsored", and it will never be presented as an independent review or test. A sponsor can’t change our verdict.
Affiliate links and free products
Some articles may contain affiliate links, disclosed at the top. If a company gives or lends us a product, the article says so. See our affiliate disclosure and review method.
